The city of Cairo

 ¿ What is the city of Cairo about?   

It is the capital of Egypt, it is also the second largest African city, its metropolitan area includes an approximate population of about 16 million inhabitants, it is the most populated metropolitan area of the entire African continent. It is the cradle of civilization which has several places of interest that are important in history.


¿How are weddings? 

Engagement rings

The rings have a great importance for the union of the Egyptians and it is a tradition that was united since modernity. But there is a main difference is that the bride's ring is made of gold, while the groom's is made of silver. 

The engagement ceremony is held almost the same as the wedding itself, with a full party where the groom asks his parents for their hand. 


Great public parties

In both the engagement ceremony and post-wedding entertainment, the Egyptian party is often in vogue, sometimes they are held on the street in front of everyone, blocking neighbourhood’s so that the community can join in the celebration as well.

Mainly from the boyfriend who must bear all the expenses. The humblest parties are usually open and have the support of the community in terms of drinks and food. 

Group weddings

It is an idea that began with the economic possibilities of many couples, where several commitments were carried out on the same day. The financing of these weddings is usually donations from Egyptian businessmen, who offer money and funds anonymously in many cases.

The bachelor Party

In Egypt, they usually have a separate celebration between friends, female relatives of the bride, and male friends and relatives of the groom, both in their respective homes. Due to religion, neither strippers nor women are called, but rather a healthy, quiet celebration with lots of food, which cannot be missed.

Wedding dress

She has a huge white dress with lots of glitter, however, the selection of the dress depends a lot on the fiancée and  but if it has a neckline they should wear something low.

Brides generally choose traditional dresses, but with more modern touches. Instead of grooming themselves at home, they rent a hair salon all to themselves and have a team that does their makeup and fixes. The most humble weddings, if they are usually prepared at the bride's house.


The groom's caravan

The groom cannot see her. That is why her girlfriend is picked up directly at the hairdresser, with traditional music in style and a family retinue of cars in a caravan that follow the journey. 

The photo shoots

They use the photographic studio, mosque or a natural landscape, depending on the selection of the bride and groom. It is then that an incredible photo session is held, where the first physical memories are created for the couple.

Some families with money prefer to do photo shoots at large important monuments, but it is also permissible to do them directly in the mosque or in the venue selected to carry out the ceremony.

 


 Gifts

It is almost inadmissible that an Egyptian boyfriend does not give gifts or presents to his girlfriend. In particular jewelry, dresses and luxurious things are given to adorn the bride's dress and to wear at traditional events.

 


The reception

Just as extravagant parties are, the reception or reception of the bride and groom is usually an incredible and very emotional moment. A well-preserved tradition is for the bride's uncles to play tunes with special piccolos throughout the welcome door, but other instruments such as tambourines can also be used. Sometimes some juggling acts, indigenous movements and Egyptian folk are hired.



 

Changing rings

In the engagement ceremony, the bride and groom fix their rings on their right hands, which symbolizes the promise of marriage and that they cannot be removed even to bathe, a very important element of tradition.

However, after getting married and making the wedding official, the bride and groom make a change of hand, passing them to the left hand, just after arriving at the place of celebration. This means that they are already married and there is no need to buy other rings. 



The first night together

And of course, the moment of consummating the marriage cannot be missed and it takes place the first night of marriage and generally they go to the groom's house where they will surely stay to live. What stands out most of this is that the family and friends of the couple accompany them to the place with a lot of noise, honking the horns of the cars and with music at full volume, so that the community knows that there is a new married family living there.
